Purposeful Design

Hippos are large semi-aquatic mammals, with a large barrel-shaped body, short legs a short tail and an enormous head. To stay cool in the blistering African heat, hippos spend most time of their day in rivers and lakes. You must have seen them in the water showing their big noses and tiny eyes and ears that keep swiveling.

Unfortunately, these gentle giants face a harsh reality. In America, hippo parts, like leather and teeth, are sold in many forms, from belts and shoes to carvings and trophies. A 2022 undercover investigation by Human Society international found thousands of hippo derived products for sale. Hippos are losing their habitat and lives due ti various human behaviors. The population of the lovely and innocent hippos has been drastically reduced.

To raise awareness about the challenges hippos face. grado worked with YUUE Design studio to create the Hippo Pouf. Designer Weng Xinyu, inspired by his love for these magnificent animals, crafted a piece that is both fun and functional. The pouf not only brings to mind the lovable, chubby hippo but also adds a whimsical and practical touch to any home.
